For Presidential Shirt, Nelson Mandela’s legacy has always represented far more than history. It is a reminder that leadership carries responsibility - and that meaningful change is created through action.
That spirit came to life when the Presidential Shirt Emporium at Nelson Mandela Square, Sandton, hosted the official race kit collection for the 2026 Nelson Mandela Legacy Ride4Hope. Riders gathered at the store ahead of their remarkable cross-border journey, bringing together cycling, community and a shared commitment to creating a better future.
Presidential Shirt’s involvement continued well beyond the kit collection. Three Presidential teams took part in the Ride4Hope, while two Presidential staff members travelled with the event to assist and support the journey.
The 2026 Legacy Ride4Hope took place from 2–5 September, bringing together more than 100 cyclists for four demanding days on the road. For the first time in the event’s history, the journey crossed an international border, beginning in Mozambique and finishing at the Nelson Mandela Capture Site in Howick, KwaZulu-Natal.
But Ride4Hope has never been simply about cycling.
At the heart of this year’s event was #Classrooms4Hope, an initiative focused on improving educational infrastructure and creating better learning environments for children in under-resourced communities. The journey began at Escola Básica de Bela Vista in Mozambique, where an initial plan to renovate two classrooms grew into a commitment to refurbish the entire school after the extent of its needs became clear.
In KwaZulu-Natal, riders and partners also celebrated the handover of a newly built classroom at Amangwe High School, tackling overcrowding and providing learners and teachers with a better educational space. Together with work completed at Giyani Primary School earlier in 2026, three schools have benefited from the initiative this year.
Endurance with purpose
Social media coverage throughout the event captured both the difficulty and the spirit of the journey. The final stage alone challenged riders with 157 kilometers from Ballito to Howick and 2,825 meters of elevation before the emotional finish at the Nelson Mandela Capture Site.
Every kilometer represented perseverance, teamwork and, most importantly, purpose.
For Presidential Shirt, supporting Ride4Hope felt particularly meaningful. The story of our brand is inseparable from Nelson Mandela, who wore Presidential shirts and transformed an unconventional African garment into an internationally recognised expression of confidence, individuality and African identity.
Hosting the riders at the Presidential Emporium, seeing six Presidential riders take to the road and having members of our own staff accompany the journey gave us another opportunity to participate in a legacy that continues to move forward.
Different people. Different roads. One shared purpose: creating hope through action.
