PRESIDENTIAL STEALS THE SHOW AT SOUTH AFRICAN FASHION WEEK
AW17 Collection Blends African Haute Couture and Heritage in Men’s and Ladies Fashion
The Presidential Collection debut at South African Fashion Week on Friday 23rd September was an unqualified success.
All who attended the auspicious occasion were impressed with the exquisite designs and fabrics exhibited on the catwalk. Not only on show were the beautiful shirts for which Presidential has become famous, but a complete range of outerwear for the discerning and fashionable client.
The menswear collection paid homage to the classic Presidential brand mixed with contemporary wearable design. Among the items shown were Biker jackets in ostrich leather, bombers in batik silk and hand gold painted cotton. Blazers embellished with beadwork and hand embroidered in gold. Wool blend coats with embroidery.
The ‘Presidential Queen’ ladies’ collection combined silks with beadwork to make gowns, dresses kaftans, and jumpsuits both innovatively beautiful and steeped with South African heritage, resulting in prestigious African Haute couture.
Style blogger Jerri Mokgofe said – “It was a dynamic show one has come to expect from the heritage brand, Presidential. There was a coherent story, beautiful styling, juxtaposed cuts and the use of fabric with lush texture that made me yearn to rub the fabrics in between my fingertips as the models walked past.”
Designer Pietro Giannuzzi said – “It was an honour to design this collection for the Presidential Brand. To have the freedom to express myself through design, to use the wonderful fabrics sourced by the Presidential team, and to pay homage to a brand steeped in South African heritage”
Founder Desre Buirski said “To listen to the reaction of the media who were astounded with collection, and the younger fashion set who were proud to be associated with the brand and to honour their country was simply overwhelming”
The collection has been designed and made in South Africa. Many of the garments from SA Fashion Week will be for sale at the Presidential stores in Nelson Mandela Square and OR Tambo International, while others will be available to order.
